Ah, so you’ve wandered in. Maybe you meant to, maybe you didn’t – either way, welcome, weary traveller. This page (updated monthly) is a snapshot into my life right now: half-formed thoughts collected from park benches, classrooms, and traffic jams; overheard conversations; random lists for no good reason.
The Monthly Mind Dump
The DELF Exam
For the past few months, “DELF prep” has been in the same category as “I’ll clean my room tomorrow” and “I should probably drink more water”. And now, it’s approaching at an alarming speed – and I’ve done about 4% of the required prep.
The good news is that, were I thrust into an environment where there was a French person who couldn’t speak any other language, I would be able to communicate passably.
The bad news is that I occasionally forget the gender of words I have read and used approximately seven hundred times.
Rainy Days
Who decided to make rain the global symbol for gloom?
I, for one, certainly disagree. The world seems to soften when it rains – people lower their voices. Music sounds richer somehow, as if the rain’s pattering added a metronome to the tune.
Also: the scent of petrichor (no elaboration needed here).
A Digital Wall
I love writing on this blog, I really do. But sometimes it feels as if I’m not talking to people, but ranting about my inner thoughts to… nothing but a digital wall.
I’m Collecting Future Nostalgia
Okay, this is going to sound ridiculous, but I recently realised that in just a few years, I will miss things that feel ordinary right now:
- The thundering adrenaline and chaos before an exam
- Complaining about that one teacher together
- Playing mafia in a group (and somehow roping teachers into it)
- The walk to class with your friends (and more than friends)
A Question.
How many moments become important only after they’re over?
(I’m still thinking about this.)
Lists
things nobody tells you about being a teen
- you’ll spend half your life saying “when I’m older…” and the other half wondering where all the time went
- one day you’ll catch yourself giving advice to someone younger and realise that you were that person just yesterday
- some of your favourite memories will arrive on completely ordinary Tuesdays
- it’s okay to feel lonely even when you have friends. it’s more common than you’d think!
- you’ll miss the things you never thought you would; I, for instance, will always miss the feeling of being backstage with the rest of the team members, waiting to hear our cue
evidence that the universe has a cruel sense of humour
- the chapter you decided to revise is always the one that ends up in the test
- the best ideas occur in the shower, or at 11.11 pm in bed, or over a cup of chai – never actually when you’re supposed to be writing
- the text you’ve been waiting for all day will arrive after both your patience and your anticipation wear thin
- you can reread a message ten times and still find a new way to interpret it. moral of the story? stop rereading your messages.
- you will remember a conversation you had three years ago in excruciating detail, but forget why you walked into the kitchen
- socks do not just disappear. they are sucked into a realm beyond human understanding
With love,
Divi
