Because Sometimes You Just Need to Stand in the Rain

Because Sometimes You Just Need to Stand in the Rain

Sometimes, you don’t need a reason. The sky darkens, wreathing the surroundings in mist, and suddenly you feel like the only logical thing to do is step outside and let the rain wash everything away.

So, naturally, I did what any mildly impulsive aspiring poet would do – and went downstairs to get soaked in the rain. The sky was dark as if someone had smudged charcoal across it, and apart from the pitter-patter of rain, a congenial silence had settled over the city. It was an almost unreal feeling – taking the staircase two steps at a time and just racing out into the silvery rain falling in sheets.

I watched as drops of water draped the world in silver threads, tapping on metal sheet roofing like fingers playing on piano keys. And as dramatic as this sounds, it truly felt like that moment in a novel when the heroine solves her internal conflict and stands untethered to the rest of the world (though I’m neither witty nor bold enough to be the main character outside of my own life).

Because sometimes, you just need to stand in the rain…

Yours truly,
Divi
