Mountains, definitely.
I have nothing against beaches- the feeling of cerulean waves lapping against you, feet sinking slightly into sun-warmed sand, and seagulls cawing in the sky, dipping towards the water every now and then to skim their wings through it. It’s incredibly relaxing.
But mountains hold a different kind of quietude for me. As someone living in a bustling, cacophonous city life, the surreal silence in mountainous areas is unrivalled. The fresh air (a welcome respite from the polluted Gurgaon atmosphere) and dimmed sounds of wind and babbling brooks are the most peace-inducing sensations- it’s the closest thing I know to peace.
And then there’s the sheer scale of it all: mountains towering around you, reminding you how small your worries are in comparison. It’s the one place where my mind can untangle itself.
Even the people there- hardy and humble. They are resilient, carved by wind and tempered by the snow, and stewards of old traditions.
So while the shore grants temporary reprieve, I’ll always return to the hills, where the silence echoes back at you…
Yours truly,
Divi
